Review by jaksa:
It’s 5pm and I’m standing in a very long line waiting to buy a daily ticket for Sziget festival! After some 15 mins of waiting in the line I finally bought the ticket and was ready to go to the festival area. Festival area is actually an island (sziget on Hungarian) and it is a very good place for gigs and stuff like that. Good side of this is that island have really big capacity, but the bad side is that when there is some good band at the main stage all crowd practically flees there and then you get an “overcrowded” gig which was case with the Prodigy gig (unfortunately).
Some 2-3 hours before the gig I decided to go and see Iggy & The Stooges at the main stage and at the same time “reserve” good standing position in the front row. Plan was good in that moment and sucessfull. Iggy was great, as always and must say almost totally naked… as always. Also, crowd was in a very good mood and atmosphere was great! After Iggy, Anima sound system were playing their set. Near the end of their performance, crowd is beginning to arrive to the main stage, because Prodigy are next.
And problems are starting right now! After some 20 minutes, area in front of the main stage is geting really, really owercrowded!!! It was the last day of the festival and it seamed like everyone on the entire island were here just because of the Prodigy. Problem is that most of the people were into pushing each other and many of them were very nervous all the time, so you can imagine what hapenned when gig started! Gig should start at 21:30, but as usual it started some 10-15 mins later. Army March Intro kicks in and shortly after, Liam appears on the stage and gets behind his keyboards. I must say this intro sound great live and it is great opener! Intro isn’t finished yet and Keith and Maxim comes onto the stage along with Keiron and Rob.
Next is Wake The Fuck Up and crowd is getting really mad! Maxim and Keith are great on this one, but because of the insane crowd, pushing and jumping on each other, you can’t see anything on the stage, cause you are trying to stand on your feet (if you save them, of course) and do I have to repeat that I was in 3rd row! After surviving this one, Breathe comes in and crowd gets more brutal than ever. Sudenly, I found myself in some 10-15th row, with no posibillity to come back! You were luckily if you could breathe at all, while Maxim shouts from the stage “Breathe with me”! What an irony! 🙂
Next one is Their Law and it just kicks ass. I think it will stay in Prodigy’s setlist forever, because it is a great track for performing live. It is followed by Spitfire. I expected that after WTFU, Breathe and Their law, crowd will chill out a bit on this one, but I was wrong! In fact there was no even a smallest chill out at this gig! All 70-80 minutes were mad, mad and mad!!! After Spitfire No Good kicks in. It is a remix and it just sounds great live. Next one is Back To School, a remixed one. In some part of it Maxim shouts for 4-5 times “Take you back to where” and after some 5th time Liam drops down the beats and tune is continuing in its usual way. Back To School ends, Maxim leaves the stage and as you can guess Firestarter is coming! Great one as always, but I prefer original version more.
Then Action Radar Link leads us into Warning. Must say that Keith was great here, and people loved this one! Then Voodoo People comes next. It is always nice to hear Voodoo People live, because it is one of my favourite Prodigy tracks! After VP, Prodigy have left the stage and came back with the Poison. Diesel Power is next, but unfortunatelly it isn’t full version, only some sort of link to the Smack My Bitch Up which fired up crowd even more! After that injection, Out Of Space comes as some sort of refreshing drink for the crowd and good way for band to say goodbye, because this was the last one for that gig!
In the end, besides that crowd “thing” gig was great and it seams to me that guys were in great mood that night!
I was in a great mood too, but totally tired and wasted, so it was time to get the cab to the hotel, pack my things and leave next morning to the Frequency festival!
