Review by peerless:
Just back from Hove, and I’m completly wasted after the gig, so I’m gonna crash in about 5 min
Great venue for a midnight outdoor concert, as you can see from the pic, it was totally packed. The article only states The Prodigy threw a great party, the rest is just a short interview where Keith says he’s taken shitloads of drugs throughout his career and Liam says even the great composers like Mozart were high on opium
Anywayz, compared to the gig in Oslo which I also attended, there were only minor differences regarding the setlist, they played Omen Reprise as intro to IMD, and also Diesel Power ’09 this time (which by the way rocks donkey balls, can’t believe some people slag this version).
The crowd (those sitting on the sides apart) went mental from the beginning, and it’s good to see that many of the new tunes are popular. There were mosh pits, people falling and getting stepped on, a complete twisted mayhem of fun 😀 I would summarize the concert as goes:
+ The boys never disappoint, great to see them play such a large norwegian crowd (in Oslo last time there was only 1500 capacity)
+ RWTW gets better and better and better live, crowd-reaction-wise, it even tops Their Law (I nearly puked after rocking my socks off to it
+ In general, all the new tunes in the setlist work really well, and great to see that Commanche is part of it
– There was at times waaay too much bass, which imo ruined Poison, which was a real shame
– Said it before, say it again: Firestarter for me is outdated, and should be replaced (see below for what to replace with. Also, having RWTW and Firestarter in quick succession is a bit too intense
– I know I’m a hardcore fan and all, but it frustrates me a bit that Liam played a “safe” setlist, I’m dying to hear Mescaline live, or if not, then just something a haven’t heard before.
Thanks to everybody who turned out and made it a hell of a party, see you again in Oslo in November
Highlights by Elsewhere:
Standout tracks :
World’s on Fire – Best tune to begin a gig. That’s it.
Omen – i think it was track of the night. This tune hasn’t got a weak point at live. It’s amazing. That singing along vibe works well and when powerful shitt kicks in, menthal!
Poison – i sayd once it shold be removed from the list for being kind of wourn out. worst crap i have ever sayd. main bass, it takes crowd high. it’s just harrrdddd
Warrior’s Dance – cool oldschool sample doesn’t do the main thing like i thought. god damn, the bassline, later brakedown makes it … wohohoho. unbelievable
Run With The Wolves – got played after one of the most famoust anthem firestarter, Run totally owned it. keith screaming hes lungs out works very well and mindblowing main riff, it got crowd moving alright
Take Me To The Hospital – it fits perfectly to the end of the gig. It really bloody felt crashed, eargasmic riff in the end and last killing beats takes the last bit out of you.
Other side :
Firestarter – Maybe original version would work better. you would be surprised how the energy was. at first then first riff kicked in everybody went woohooo, but it cooled down….
Voodoo people – It’s one of the prodigy most trademark tunes, good live, but i just feel there are better ones to put instead of that.
Commanche – It’s the weird one. absolutely crazy tune, thumpin, but i just think many dont’t get it and it bit draws down the overall vibe of the gig. but still i think they should continue with it cause it’s just nuts.tune in a good way.
Take Me To The Hospital – the soundsystem of the gig bit destroyed what this tune I believe is capable of. It’s a festival thing, they can’t always provide excellent sound, it could have been better.
Sum it up:
I must say I can’t imagine better live experience. It feels so bad from the second it all got over, but being at gig proved all my belief on them and the next time theres chance to go, I won’t doubt for a second.
Long live The Prodigy I hope to see them again soon.
